30 Reels Hooks for Brands: Opening Lines, Shots and Captions + Free Reels Opening Shot Card (Word)
A Reels opening does not need to shout for attention. Show a relevant problem and use a line that tells the viewer what to notice. These 30 original examples pair an opening line with a first shot. Use the line as the caption, shortening filler without losing the meaning. They are creative examples, not proven retention or sales results.
Choose one job for the opening
Help the viewer understand a difference, resolve uncertainty or identify a next step. Show the product immediately when physical evidence matters. For services, start with the confusing moment in the process. Speech, captions and visuals should answer the same question.
Meta's Reels advertising guidance highlights vertical video, audio and safe zones. Preview important captions in the actual interface. This is a production check; platform advertising findings are not a guarantee for every organic brand video.

Connect the opening to the rest of the video
Follow the opening with two shots that answer its question, then give one appropriate action. For a backpack, pack real commuting items, show the filled bag and compartments, and invite the viewer to check dimensions. Do not promise that everything fits and edit out contradictory evidence.
A creator brief should specify required facts, freedom of delivery, caption language, revisions and rights. Organic reposting, paid advertising, editing and source files are separate permissions. A production fee does not automatically include publishing on the creator's account.

Budget, timing and measurement
For a Hong Kong pilot of three short videos, plan HK$2,000–5,000 for a brief and three hooks, HK$4,000–10,000 for a half-day single-location shoot, and HK$3,000–7,000 for basic editing and captions: HK$9,000–22,000 total. Allow 7–12 working days and one revision round. These are planning allowances, not creator quotes. Talent, creator publishing, venue, travel, music and advertising rights, and media spend are extra; do not add items already included in a package.
For an initial comparison, keep the main body similar and change the opening. Examine retention, completed views, qualified enquiries and negative feedback, not plays alone. Different audiences, promotion and timing prevent an organic comparison from being a controlled A/B test.
FAQs
Does someone have to appear on camera?
No. Product demonstrations, hands and process footage can work when they make the evidence clear.
Should captions repeat every word?
Keep the meaning and material conditions, reduce clutter and preview on a phone to check interface overlap.
Can trending music be used in ads?
Popularity does not establish commercial rights. Check permissions for the specific asset, account and use; organic availability does not prove paid-ad rights.
