UGC Video Script Templates: 6 Examples and a Shot Checklist

6 min read

The hardest part of a UGC video is often deciding what to say. Start with one question a customer asks before buying, then answer it with something viewers can actually see. These six original templates work as starting points for retail, food and service businesses. All sample lines are illustrative, not real customer testimonials.

Decide whether you need content files or creator distribution

UGC originally means user-generated content. Commercial teams also use “UGC-style” for natural, first-person brand assets. Paid acting must not masquerade as an unsolicited customer review. A video-file commission and a package that includes publication to a creator’s audience should be quoted separately. A casual visual style does not remove the need for transparent commercial relationships.

Before filming, complete this sentence: “Help [audience] understand [one question] and take [one action].” For a restaurant, that could mean showing first-time office diners what a lunch set includes, then directing them to the menu. Explore Allua video marketing services if you need to define the role of the video first.

Six adaptable UGC scripts

1 | Question → demonstration → choice: a reusable coffee cup

Hook: “Before buying this cup, I want to know: is the lid difficult to clean?” Body: “The lid separates into [actual number] parts. I rinse each part, then put it back together following the instructions.” Film the lid close up, disassembly, cleaning and reassembly. Close: “The product page has the full capacity and cleaning guide.” Show the real operation; do not add a “completely leakproof” claim without supporting evidence.

2 | The first-visit route: a restaurant or shop

Hook: “First visit? Here’s how to find the entrance.” Body: “From [real landmark], walk [direction] until you see [storefront]. Once seated, check [menu section]. The [verified set price] includes [items].” Film the exterior, route, menu and actual portions. Close: “Use the store link for the menu and booking details.” Confirm opening hours, service charges and offer conditions on the shoot day, and avoid filming customers without permission.

3 | One task, three steps: software or a service

Hook: “Need a quotation, but the details are scattered?” Body: “First, enter the customer’s requirements using test data. Second, select the relevant items. Third, check each price before exporting.” Show a test account and a readable output. Close: “Bring us an example and we can discuss whether this fits your workflow.” Demonstrate existing features only; edited footage is not evidence of actual processing speed.

4 | Who it suits—and its limits

Hook: “This [product] won’t suit everyone. Start with how you use it.” Body: “If [verified feature] matters, it is worth considering. If you need [unsupported function], another type of solution may fit better.” Show dimensions, materials or operation instead of unsupported comparisons. Close: “Tell us your use case and we’ll help you choose.” Clear limits give viewers room to make their own decision.

5 | A real customer interview

Ask: “What were you trying to solve? How did you use it? Which detail helped? What limitation remains?” Let the customer answer in their own words, supported by actual use footage. The brand can close with: “Contact us to discuss a similar solution.” If no real customer is available, make a demonstration instead. Do not ask an actor to claim three months of use; confirm permission and accuracy before quoting anyone.

6 | Answer an objection: what the price includes

Hook: “Why do two quotes look so different? Check what is included.” Body: “Our [actual package] includes [three deliverables]. [Optional item] is quoted separately. If you only need [smaller scope], start with [entry option].” Film real deliverables and a clear price card. Close: “Share your budget and intended use so we can scope it properly.” Avoid invented reference prices, limited slots or countdowns. Where pricing depends on scope, invite a quotation.

A 30-second storyboard: cleaning a product

Use this as a production starting point, not a platform rule or a promise of optimal performance. Seconds 0–3: hold the cup and ask whether the lid is easy to clean. Seconds 3–8: show disassembly. Seconds 8–18: film the important cleaning details close up. Seconds 18–24: reassemble and refer to the product instructions. Seconds 24–30: show the product and brand clearly, then point to the cleaning guide. If the words do not fit, remove words before increasing delivery speed.

Need to turn product features into a filmable story? Discuss UGC scripting and production with Allua. Share the product page, target audience and three questions customers ask most often.

A practical pre-shoot, shoot and delivery checklist

Before filming: confirm one message, product facts, location permission, appearance consent and permitted music or asset use. List the main scene, hands-on demonstration, product close-ups, establishing shots and closing image. A vertical 9:16 composition with 1080×1920 delivery is a useful starting point; check the final platform requirements. Keep faces, captions and essential details away from interface overlays.

During filming: lock exposure and white balance, check sound through headphones and leave several seconds before and after key actions. Capture the main shots that explain the story before adding detail shots. Background music cannot repair unclear speech.

At delivery: request a clean master and the agreed captioned version. Check names, prices, captions, product visibility and the CTA. Separate factual corrections, missing agreed content and new creative requests. Confirm channels, licence duration, editing rights, paid-ad permission and whether raw footage is included.

Budget and timing: define the deliverables first

These are Allua planning allowances for a small Hong Kong production, not market averages, fixed prices or quotes from any creator. Assume one product, one local location, one 30–45-second vertical video and one consolidated revision. Creator posting, extra talent, location fees, travel, paid media and advertising licences require separate agreement.

Production budget comparison (HKD)

Item

Allowance (HKD)

Included scope

Script and storyboard

1,000–2,000

One concept, dialogue and shot list

Simple filming

2,000–5,000

One local setting; phone or light camera setup

Editing and captions

1,000–3,000

One 30–45-second video; one consolidated revision

Illustrative total: HK$1,500 scripting + HK$3,000 filming + HK$2,000 editing = HK$6,500 before separately agreed items. Do not add scripting or editing again if a package already includes them. Allow 7–10 working days for a first round: 1–2 for information and scripting, 2–3 for coordination and filming, 2–3 for editing and 2 for approval and revisions, with some overlap possible. Shipping, weather and availability can extend the schedule.

FAQ: five questions before delivery

Is a phone camera enough?

Prioritise clear sound, stable light and readable captions. A phone can handle a simple tabletop demonstration. More complex scenes, specialist shots or several performers may justify a larger setup. Film a 10-second sample and watch it on a phone first.

How much should one video cost?

For the simple commission described here, allow HK$4,000–10,000: HK$1,000–2,000 for scripting, HK$2,000–5,000 for filming and HK$1,000–3,000 for editing. Creator-account publication and extra licences are excluded. If you receive a complete package quote, assess its included scope instead of adding these allowances on top.

How many revisions are included?

This example includes one consolidated round. Appoint one brand owner to combine comments. Reshoots, new locations or a different concept need separate pricing. Distinguish factual corrections from out-of-scope requests and agree response times before production.

Does paid content need disclosure?

Check the current rules before publishing. Instagram’s branded-content requirements cover relevant exchanges of value; YouTube requires creators to declare relevant branded content and adds a disclosure label. Brand-owned assets should also make the commercial context and the speaker’s identity clear. Platform labels do not replace every applicable requirement. Official references: Instagram branded content guidance and YouTube branded content disclosure.

How do we choose what to make next?

Compare two openings while retaining the same main content, audience and CTA. Record viewing, clicks and qualified enquiries. Keep paid-media conditions as comparable as possible; organic-post comparisons are directional. High viewing with few enquiries is a reason to inspect the product promise, destination page and next action. If the sample is too small, collect more data rather than declaring a guaranteed winner.

Make production and creator management easier

Allua can support scripting, creator coordination, production and one-stop creator management. Request a UGC production plan with the quantity, languages, delivery window and intended channels so the scope can be defined clearly.

Are you a creator? Apply to be considered for future Allua articles or brand opportunities through the creator collaboration form. Features and partnerships are subject to fit and mutual agreement, with no guaranteed placement.

Public information and platform rules can change; check current official guidance before use. Budgets and timelines depend on the actual quotation and availability. Please contact Allua if any information needs correcting.
