3D Animation Production Workflow: Models, Materials and Approval + Free Acceptance Template
Write down the hardest shot before production
Start the Hong Kong production brief with one representative shot. If the product has a transparent housing, specify which internal part viewers need to see, how transparent the surface should be and how long the camera must hold. Supply reference angles, physical colour samples, dimensions and logo files. Name the final sign-off owner and flag geometry or text that cannot change.
Gate 1. Approve the model in grey
Inspect the silhouette, dimensions, component placement and range of movement. Ask for front and side views and a short turntable. Record feedback against a frame or view. If a connector must sit on the right, put the reference photo beside the corresponding view. Product or engineering approves before material work starts.
Gate 2. Lock materials and lighting
Request a test render for a representative shot. Compare colour, roughness, transparency and reflections against the agreed reference. Record the lighting version, file version and viewing conditions. When displays differ, return to the agreed comparison file and conditions. Include protected logos, printed text and safety markings in the sign-off.
Gate 3. Review the complete motion at low resolution
Review camera order, pacing, component motion and subtitle hold against timecode in a low-resolution preview. Separate mandatory changes from suggestions, with an owner and due date for each. If the product body changes after this gate, list affected models, labels and shots and agree revised scope and delivery dates in writing.
Repeat the checks at delivery
Log duration, aspect ratio, resolution, frame rate, captions, audio tracks and filenames. Clarify whether project files, plugin dependencies and third-party licences are part of the contracted handover. Retain a versioned defect and retest log.
