Do PHP Vulnerabilities Affect Wix Websites? + Free External Services Checklist
If your site uses Wix, map the architecture before reacting to PHP headlines or planning a migration. The main site, subdomains, embedded forms and APIs can have different maintainers. Establish the risk and responsibility for each. Updated: 1 November 2026.
How Wix relates to PHP
Wix's documentation says PHP code cannot be added directly to a Wix site and that Velo uses JavaScript. On that basis, a Wix owner generally does not select a PHP runtime in a hosting panel as they might for a self-hosted WordPress site. This does not establish the architecture of every internal Wix platform system or exclude risks in connected external services.
Separate three maintenance responsibilities
Wix-hosted main site: check relevant platform status with Wix and manage your account and site settings.
Separately hosted site or API: its host and developer should assess PHP and patch status, even when it uses the same brand's domain.
External SaaS or embedded tool: the supplier confirms service status and remediation; the website team tests the integration. This division is a maintenance recommendation, not a blanket security guarantee for any platform.
Eight checks for your site and connected services
□ 1. List the main site, every subdomain and their hosting platforms. Expected: a platform and owner for each domain. Ask IT or the domain administrator to resolve unknown hosts.
□ 2. Include separate WordPress blogs, old campaign pages, download centres and membership portals. Expected: a complete list of separate portals and old services. Ask the developer to identify unknown hosting.
□ 3. List embedded forms, bookings, chat, payments and file-upload tools. Expected: a supplier and purpose for every embedded tool. Have the maintainer identify unfamiliar scripts.
□ 4. Inventory external APIs, webhooks and intermediary servers called by Velo or other code. Expected: API/webhook destinations and maintainers. Have the developer inspect code and connection records.
□ 5. Record each provider, maintenance owner, data category and business impact of failure. Expected: an owner, data category and impact for each service. Escalate sensitive data or major downtime to the technical owner.
□ 6. For PHP services, obtain the real package/version and relevant security-patch evidence. Expected: package/advisory and deployment evidence. Refer unknown, unpatched or conflicting status to the host/developer.
□ 7. For SaaS you cannot inspect, request a supplier response. Unknown does not mean safe. Expected: a written supplier status and open items. Keep unanswered items pending and assign follow-up to the maintenance owner.
□ 8. Use authorised test data to verify enquiry, booking or transaction journeys and confirm receipt in the destination system. Expected: test data stored in the right destination and notifications received. Refer failed or misrouted data to the integration developer; suspected exposure needs security expertise.
Avoid attributing every Wix problem to PHP
Record the time, URL, device and affected function and check platform and supplier status. For a problem isolated to custom code or an embedded tool, follow Wix's troubleshooting guidance and test individual components. Disabling production code can affect the business, so retain settings and plan the test first. A PHP headline is not evidence that an unrelated layout, browser or third-party script failure is caused by PHP.

Example: Wix main site with a separate membership system
Suppose Wix hosts the homepage and service pages while a members subdomain points to a separate PHP application. That external environment needs assessment and patching, alongside tests of the site's links and login integration. The Wix main site does not establish the security of membership data. This is an architectural example, not a reported compromise.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Should we immediately migrate from WordPress to Wix?
A: A migration does not replace urgent remediation or incident handling. Assess platform choice separately against functionality, cost and maintenance capability.
Q: If everything is SaaS, is there nothing to maintain?
A: Accounts, permissions, integrations, data flows and supplier responses still require ownership.
Q: Does a working homepage prove the enquiry form works?
A: No. Verify submission, storage and notification receipt.
Q: Can a URL reveal the PHP version reliably?
A: No. Confirm it with the actual maintainer.
