Choosing Cantonese AI Subtitle Tools + Free Cantonese Subtitle Trial Pack (Word)
Hong Kong speech often mixes Cantonese, English product names, prices and informal expressions. Ask four separate questions: does the tool recognise Cantonese, output Traditional Chinese, preserve your chosen spoken or written style, and export timed subtitles? One feature does not prove the others.
This guide checks official documentation and supplies a repeatable trial script. It makes no measured accuracy claim.
Compare the workflow
Notta lists Cantonese for monolingual transcription, while its bilingual and translation features have different language coverage. HappyScribe lists Cantonese yue for AI transcription and subtitles, with a separate Hong Kong Traditional Cantonese human-service entry. TurboScribe documents SRT and VTT exports; trial its mixed-language handling rather than treating a broad language claim as proof. Official sources: Notta language support; HappyScribe languages; TurboScribe exports.
Tool | Documented feature | Trial priority |
|---|---|---|
Notta | Cantonese in monolingual transcription | Mixed speech, exports and plan |
HappyScribe | yue AI字幕; AI yue; separate HK Traditional human service | Service type and script |
TurboScribe | SRT and VTT export | Verify actual Cantonese handling |
Decide the style first
A literal Cantonese subtitle and a polished written-Chinese version may both be acceptable, but they require different instructions. Brand names, amounts, negations and conditions must keep their meaning. Create a spelling list for people, brands, model numbers and English terms. Flag unclear speech instead of inventing a plausible sentence.

Record these twelve Cantonese lines with the same speaker and microphone, first clearly and then in a representative environment. They are synthetic test cases. The English explanations show meaning, not a second Cantonese test set.

Measure the complete job
Compare each line against a human-approved reference. Then check timings, line breaks, visual obstruction and the file imported into your real editor. Use the five-field acceptance sheet in this section and record evidence, not just a star rating.
Include upload, recognition, proofreading, timing corrections and export in the time measurement. A ten-minute clip requiring 25 minutes of proofreading and ten minutes of timing work consumes 35 minutes of human effort, even if generation itself takes two minutes.
Planning budget
For a clear ten-minute single-speaker video, Allua suggests HK$300–800 for setup and terminology, HK$700–1,500 for transcription cleanup and proofreading, and HK$500–1,200 for timing, typography and export. Total: HK$1,500–3,500, typically planned over 1–3 working days. Allow another HK$800–2,000 for English translation. Overlapping speech, noise and specialist terminology require separate scoping.
FAQ
Does Traditional Chinese mean Cantonese recognition? No; test the speech and the output separately. Is a higher headline accuracy always better value? Check consequential errors and editing time. Missing “not” matters more than ordinary punctuation. Can you publish automatically? Have someone review brand prices, conditions and product descriptions, and verify the actual export.
Ask Allua to scope Cantonese subtitles and bilingual video delivery. Share duration, language mix, use and format. Use the separate free-resource button above for the Word file.
