20 Corporate Interview Questions That Produce Usable Stories + Free Corporate Interview Question Sheet (Word)

A strong interview is not “tell us about the company” followed by hope. Questions should move from easy context to a specific problem, decision, evidence, failure, people and future. The interviewer then turns slogans into editable stories with one prompt: “Can you give me an example?”

Positioning questions tell viewers who you are. Story questions create people and turning points. Evidence questions build credibility. Action questions connect the story to a next step. A film made only of positioning becomes adjectives; a film made only of numbers lacks a person.

Do not memorise a script

Let the interviewee see topics and factual information, but avoid word-for-word rehearsal. The interviewer should know the intended meaning and evidence follow-up for each section. Confirm names, titles, figures, product claims and confidentiality boundaries. Decide what may be published or anonymised when customers, employees, unreleased plans or sensitive data appear.

Turn abstractions into specifics

When someone says “we care about customers”, ask “what is the most recent process you changed because of customer feedback?” For “efficiency improved greatly”, ask “what did the process change from and to, and who noticed first?” For “our team is professional”, ask “what did the team do during the highest-pressure moment?” A follow-up helps, rather than attacks, the speaker.

Agree recording, privacy and copyright

Video can contain identifiable personal data. Hong Kong's PCPD says personal data should be collected lawfully for a directly related purpose and should not be excessive; use for a new purpose generally requires appropriate consent. The release should define use, channels, edits, term, name and title, treatment of unpublished material and contact. Hong Kong's Intellectual Property Department also notes that copyright ownership in commissioned work depends on agreement, so production and brand rights should be written down.

Shoot for the edit

Record the full answer, then ask for a one-sentence restatement. Decide whether questions will remain audible. Two cameras can cover medium and close angles; film work, hands, products, team and relevant documents as B-roll. The interviewer should not overlap every answer with “yes, yes” or interrupt the final words.

Hong Kong planning budget and timing

A half-day, single-interview, basic two-camera production with one main film may start around HK$18,000–60,000. Multiple interviewees, locations, bilingual subtitles, animation, six cut-downs and rights management may range from HK$40,000–120,000+. Allow three to six weeks for pre-interview, shoot, factual review, edit and approval. These are Allua planning ranges excluding special locations, celebrities or long-term ad rights.

Prepare interviews with twenty questions and follow-ups that elicit specific stories and evidence. Get an editable Word version to adapt and reuse for your team.

Enter your email, choose how you’ll use the kit and confirm your consent to receive it by email.

How to use it: select eight to twelve questions for the actual objective rather than reading all twenty. Prepare one example, before-and-after, person or evidence follow-up for each. Example: “What was the hardest decision?” Follow with “What were the two options? What did you give up? How did you later know the decision worked?”

01 | How would you introduce yourself and your work in one sentence?

Follow-up: What needs explaining to someone outside the industry?

02 | What real problem was the company created to solve?

Follow-up: What first situation made you feel it had to exist?

03 | What difficulty do customers face before finding you?

Follow-up: What words do they use to describe it?

04 | How is your approach different from the common approach?

Follow-up: At what step does the customer feel the difference?

05 | What early success became important?

Follow-up: Where did it nearly fail first?

06 | What was the hardest decision?

Follow-up: What were the two options, and what did you give up?

07 | What did one failure teach you?

Follow-up: Which process changed afterwards?

08 | What do customers most often misunderstand?

Follow-up: What specific example can correct it?

09 | How do you know the work is good?

Follow-up: Beyond revenue, what signal does the team watch?

10 | Can you share a clear before-and-after case?

Follow-up: What numbers or behaviours support it, and what are the limits?

11 | Why do customers finally choose you?

Follow-up: What did they hesitate about, and what evidence helped?

12 | How does the team work under maximum pressure?

Follow-up: Who did what that changed the outcome?

13 | What operating principle matters most?

Follow-up: Has it made you reject work or change a decision?

14 | What valuable part of the offer is most overlooked?

Follow-up: When does the customer finally notice it?

15 | What will change most in the industry over two years?

Follow-up: Which parts are fact, and which are your judgement?

16 | What are you most determined to improve now?

Follow-up: What evidence would show success?

17 | If starting again, what would you do three years earlier?

Follow-up: Why could you not see or do it then?

18 | What should customers feel or be able to do after working with you?

Follow-up: Can you describe that as one observable behaviour?

19 | What would you tell someone considering working with you?

Follow-up: What three things should they prepare first?

20 | After this story, what should the viewer do next?

Follow-up: Learn, compare, book, try or contact—choose one.

Frequently asked questions

What if the interviewee is nervous?

Start with easy context questions. Let the camera roll without declaring a dramatic “start”. Take the complete answer first, then a concise version. Avoid correcting every word on set.

Should the questions stay in the edit?

It depends on style. If the interviewer is removed, prompt complete-sentence answers. If conversation remains, the host may be natural but must control overlap and audio.

Can answers be rearranged?

Yes for clarity, but not to reverse meaning. Reconfirm sensitive statements, figures, customer claims or combinations that create a new implication.

How long should a corporate interview be?

Fit the use: 30–90 seconds for social highlights, two to four minutes for a website story, longer for a full interview. Plan the master and cut-downs together.
