How to Run a Restaurant Influencer Visit: 18-Point Checklist + Free Restaurant Creator Visit Checklist (Word)
A good restaurant visit should not begin with “we will work it out when the creator arrives”. Creator fit, filming time, dish sequence, guest privacy, staff roles, deliverables and tracking belong in one operating sheet. The usual failure is not the camera; it is the kitchen, floor, creator and brand carrying four different versions of the plan.
Choose for fit before follower count
Campaign goal | Priority creator | Primary CTA | Tracking |
|---|---|---|---|
Neighbourhood covers | District or local-life | Book or visit | Booking code, POS source |
New-menu awareness | Food or demo video | View menu | Product page, saves |
Visitor demand | Travel plus destination audience | Book or navigate | Language link, market |
Private events | Business or events | Request package | Form, qualified enquiry |
Review whether a creator regularly covers food, their Hong Kong audience, language, price-point fit, attendance reliability, visual quality and ability to explain an experience. For neighbourhood demand, consider local-life, family, office-lunch or district creators. For visitors, confirm audience origin, travel intent and language rather than assuming any travel account will fit.
Write the objective in one sentence
Choose one primary goal: launch awareness, off-peak covers, a signature dish, membership, delivery, seasonal menu or private events. Each needs a different CTA and tracking method. Asking one post to deliver ten outcomes usually produces a generic “tastes good” video with no business learning.
Protect service operations
Film before opening, off peak or in a reserved zone. Do not leave hero dishes, lighting, music, kitchen rhythm or guest privacy to improvisation. Obtain appropriate consent before filming identifiable staff or guests. When that is impractical, change the angle, reserve a controlled area or use prepared participants.
Design a menu for imagery and honest experience
Use a “must capture” core plus creator choice: storefront, signature dishes, prices, experience and action. Do not stage fake queues, invent guest reactions or ask for unsupported health claims. Hong Kong unfair-trade rules address false descriptions and misleading omissions, so prices, service charges, restrictions and availability should be clear.
Sample 90-minute run
0–10 minutes: welcome, disclosure and filming boundary; 10–20: exterior, room and clean plates; 20–55: three to five dishes in sequence; 55–70: tasting and opinion; 70–80: CTA, price and booking; 80–90: gap check, rights and next steps. During live service, protect guest experience and include buffer.
Agree delivery, edits and disclosure before arrival
Define platforms, asset count, duration, language, publishing window, factual review, revision rounds, brand reuse, paid media, source files, data return and payment. Brands may correct dish names, prices, address, hours and compliance facts, but should not force honest opinions into positive conclusions. Meals, discounts and payment should be disclosed under applicable platform and market rules.
Hong Kong planning budget and timing
For a small visit with three to eight creators, shortlist, outreach, event coordination, content follow-up and basic reporting may start around HK$18,000–80,000, excluding food, styling, production and creator fees. One paid creator may cost HK$5,000–30,000+ depending on audience, deliverables, rights and exclusivity. Allow three to six weeks. These are Allua planning ranges, not creator quotations.

How to use it: campaign lead, floor, kitchen and production contact share one copy; assign owner, due time and notes to every item. Example: “Signature chicken served 19:10; film whole before carving; HK$268; Friday dinner requires booking; keep camera away from Area A guests.”

Frequently asked questions
Is more creators always better?
No. Kitchen and floor capacity are finite. A smaller, better-matched group usually protects food quality and guest experience.
Can we require a same-night post?
Yes as an agreed deliverable, but allow time for filming, editing, factual review and disclosure. Define immediate Stories separately from the full video.
How should the restaurant handle a negative review?
Check facts and genuine service issues, then respond briefly and professionally. A hosted meal is not grounds to remove an honest opinion. Use the agreement only for factual, compliance or contractual breaches.
How do we know whether visits generated sales?
Set a booking code, tracked link, POS source field or member tag before publishing, with a comparison period. Views and engagement show attention, not automatically covers or revenue.
