A phone can record sharp video, but sharp is not the same as attractive. Mixed colour temperatures, top-light shadows, room reflections in glass, pulsing exposure and a product that merges into the background are lighting problems before they are camera problems.
Five low-cost tools
Start with white foam board, black card, one dimmable LED, diffusion such as white fabric, and a stable phone mount. Add tape, clamps, cloth and a grey or white reference card. Keep hot lights away from diffusion and secure glass or mirrors.

Window, small-room and reflective-product methods
At a window, turn off ceiling lights, soften direct sun and use white or black card opposite. In a small office, place the LED about 45 degrees to the front and slightly above; separate product from background. For glass or metal, the product reflects the shape of the light. Build large clean white reflections, use black flags for edges, move the phone out of the reflection angle and use a longer focal length or crop.
Lock focus and exposure
Apple says iPhone automatically sets focus and exposure and allows AE/AF Lock by pressing the focus area. Position the product first, lock focus and exposure, then move deliberately rather than letting automation hunt. Clean the lens and keep white balance and frame rate consistent. Other phones should use equivalent lock controls.

Frequently asked questions
Is a ring light best for products?
Not always. It is convenient but creates an obvious ring in glass and glossy materials. Large diffusion plus white and black cards gives more control.
Why does the image flicker?
LED dimming, shutter/power-frequency mismatch or automatic exposure can cause flicker. Test stable lamp output and frame/shutter settings, and lock exposure before the real shoot.
When should a brand upgrade from phone DIY?
When reflections, multi-shot consistency, talent, motion, sound, regulated claims or many ad versions matter. Production value is control and repeatability, not only the camera.
